South Africa Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions 1990-2024

Total greenhouse gas emissions in kt of CO2 equivalent are composed of CO2 totals excluding short-cycle biomass burning (such as agricultural waste burning and Savannah burning) but including other biomass burning (such as forest fires, post-burn decay, peat fires and decay of drained peatlands), all anthropogenic CH4 sources, N2O sources and F-gases (HFCs, PFCs and SF6).
  • South Africa greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions for 2020 was 501,520.88, a 9.7% decline from 2019.
  • South Africa greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions for 2019 was 555,409.28, a 1.33% increase from 2018.
  • South Africa greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions for 2018 was 548,100.88, a 0.69% increase from 2017.
  • South Africa greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions for 2017 was 544,358.76, a 2.54% increase from 2016.
